- FDA Cleared
- Non Surgical
How does miraDry® work?
The treatment starts with Dr. Gentry measuring and marking the underarm areas. He then numbs the target with a local anesthetic before proceeding with the treatment.
The 60-minute procedure uses electromagnetic precision heat to target armpit sweat and odor glands. Since sweat glands do not regenerate, once they are gone—it’s permanent.
- Available in 50 countries worldwide
- 2011 — FDA-cleared to treat excessive underarm sweating
- 2015 – FDA-cleared to eliminate underarm hair
- One treatment can eliminate 60-70% of your underarm hair follicles
Safety and soreness
Sweating is an important body function and patients should always consider treatment risks. However, underarm sweat removal treatments have a minimal impact on your body’s ability to regulate heat. Of the millions of sweat glands in your body, only 1-2% are in your underarms.
You should expect soreness and underarm swelling after your treatment. Due to your arm’s positioning during the procedure and the use of a local anesthetic, its common for patients to experience numbness/tingling in their arms and/or hands for a few hours. Discomfort is strongest the first 12-24 hours. The most common adverse effect, other than swelling, is partial numbness of the underarm area. Swelling may persist for 1-6 weeks and over-the-counter medicines can adequately address most pain.
Alternative sweating treatments
Most injectable sweat reduction treatments deliver more temporary results. It’s common for patients to receive 25-50 injectable units (per arm) every four months. In contrast, 80% of patients are satisfied with one miraDry treatment.
